Simon Banks

Lighting & Sound Services

Simon started in lighting and sound with school productions, and unwisely decided that it could be a fun way to earn a living. Having worked professionally since 1990, he assumes he is still of that belief.

During this time he has lit a wide variety of people, objects and places, ranging from the dinosaurs in the Natural History Museum, to the dinosaurs of the Isle of Wight Women’s Institute.

Simon has worked in lighting and sound on a large assortment of events from traditional theatre and dance through corporate functions, car launches and fashion shows, and even an international swimming competition. He has worked for a variety of clients including Hilton Hotels and the Indonesian Department of Trade, and has lit many famous names including Midge Ure in concert, and Miss World. Roles have included lighting designer, production electrician and lighting crew, and sound rigger / operator.

Over forty pantomimes have featured in Simon’s work, including lighting pantomimes for BBC Radio, and mixing sound for a pantomime for the National Deaf Children’s Society.

In over 25 years as a venue technician, Simon has provided technical support in lighting, sound and staging for thousands of events from simple one-night concerts to full-staged musicals and operas, in addition to technical maintenance and installation work, and specification and consultancy for venues and organisations in productions and technical refurbishment.

Simon would like during his career to have worked on a production whose title begins with each letter of the alphabet, so would be grateful if any producers could give him work on shows beginning with Q,U,X or Z.
